Waterton National Park, Canada
(7-3-2007)
Lou says,

It was Friday afternoon and as we entered Alberta Canada and we knew it might be difficult to find an opening at a camp ground as it was Canada Day weekend. Our assumptions were correct. All of the Waterton Lakes campgrounds were full and the waiting list was in excess of 60!  The courteous ranger at the park's entry station told us there was a private campground just outside the park.

When we arrived at the private park we found it was completely reserved with the exception of a few, non-reservable dry camping sites.  We were prepared for boondocking  so this presented no problem for us. We grabbed the opening. Within an hour after our arrival the campground was filled to capacity.  It is always good to arrive early!

We learned from the "Welcome to Alberta" sign that the wild rose is the provincial flower so I made it a point to get some photos of these. They grow just about everywhere so finding some good subjects was not a problem.

Waterton Lakes National park is much smaller than Glacier. In the two days we visited I feel we were able to see most of the important sites and we even had time to do a little more hiking.

The Town site reminders me of the atmosphere in Europe.  There are many open air cafes, gift shops and of course the ice cream parlors. There are two scenic roads in the park, Red Rock Canyon road and the Akamina Parkway which ends at Cameron Lake. We took one day on each road. We also attempted to hike to Cameron Falls but pooped out before we arrived.  I really need to figure out a way of packing less photo equipment.
The trail is uphill all the way to the falls. Wild flowers are abundant on both sides of the trail and provided many very nice flower photos.
