Kenai towns
(September 2007)
Lou says....

So far we have been to Whittier, Seward and Homer and later we plan to continue our exploration of the Kenai.

WHITTIER:  Whittier's claim to fame is not the town itself but the unique one lane train/car tunnel. The town of Whittier is very small and most of the residents live in just a few town houses or apartments.

HOMER: When we were in Homer the weather was rainy so there are not may photos in the album. Homer is noted for the Homer Spit and gorgeous views of the Kenai Mountains and the Grewingk and Portlock glaciers. When you are there don't miss going to Sky Line Drive's overlook and the panoramic view of the spit and Kenai mountains. To get a great view of the glaciers travel up East End Road a few miles. Another tourist attraction, but not well known, is the winter eagle feeding by Jean Keene. (Note: I am writing this in April 2008 and we did make second trip to Homer. You can get a sneak preview of the glaciers and eagle feeding here)

SEWARD: Seward is much larger and has many points of interest worth seeing. In town is the Alaska Sea Life Center, shopping, parks, and the port where large cruise ships and and smaller one day sight seeing excursions depart from.  Interesting murals are painted on the sides many buildings depicting the history and life in Alaska. Just out of town is Exit Glacier, also worth the trip.

The Kenai Fiords cruise and the Sea Life Center are the biggest attractions. If you go to the Sea Life Center, and are also a camera buff, be sure to bring a tripod and long lens to get close ups of the wildlife.

We camped on the shore of Resurrection Bay in Seward for about a week and plan to return there in the spring to do another cruise.
