Indoor winter activities
(October- November 2007)
Lou says....
When we said we were spending the winter in Alaska people thought we were crazy. Why do you want to do that, you will get bored, it is going to be so cold there, were a few of the comments we received. To be honest we wondered the same things but in reality we were busier than ever, the temperatures were not much different than home and Illinois actually had a lot more snow than we did this winter.
At this time of year are many craft shows, outdoor shows, and swap meets. We made it a point to visit as many of these as we could. The big shows are held at Sullivan Arena in Anchorage. The "Make it Alaskan" show was the largest and most interesting for us as only items made in Alaska were allowed to be displayed and sold. The booths displayed products from both large and small businesses. For sale were craft items made by native Alaskans, art works, professional photography, lots of foods, jellies and canned gourmet sea foods. Click on the "Panorama" at the right to see it for yourself.
Val joined curves and attended meetings of her teachers' sorority. I went to several photography club meetings, attended a Photoshop class and did some Ham Radio operating. In addition we were invited to many social activities by friends we met here and with Val's cousin in Anchorage. We had four invitations for Thanksgiving dinner! I tried but could not find the time to get all the updates made to the web site before we flew home for Christmas. We were on the go every week!
