Late fall and early winter sightseeing
(October- November 2007)
Lou says....

An indication that winter is fast approaching is what the locals call "Terminal Dust". While it is still fall at the lower elevations snow dusting or "Terminal Dust" starts showing at the higher elevations on the mountains. The photo at the top of this page is a good example of Terminal Dust.

We found out the hard way that only a thousand feet or so can mean the difference between beautiful fall weather and full blown winter. There was a scenic drive we wanted to take before winter set in. It was a nice fall day when we started the drive but by the time we arrived at our scenic mountain road it was winter.
Winter activities were in full force with snow boarders, skiers and snow
machines playing in the mountain snow. We had a four wheel drive truck
so I though we were good to go. As we traveled up the road the snow
became packed and very slippery and to our dismay we slipped into
another car. Fortunately there were only minor injuries but the truck needed
to go into the body shop. So now you know why there was a rental car
photo on the previous page.

Now that it was fall, with winter not far off, our sight seeing trips became more local. We explored, by foot, the surroundings near our apartment, and by car the scenic views in and around the Wasilla/Palmer area and nearby parks. Take a peek at the photo album and panoramas below.
