The Southwest - Winter 2007
500,000 RVs in Quartzsite AZ
Lou says.....

Quartzsite, AZ, is desert town of 3500 that swells to over 1 million people and 500,000 RVs in January when the big RV show is in progress.  This area is a popular winter haven for snowbirds who flock to the free RV camping on BLM (US government Bureau of Land Management) lands that surround the town. It is estimated that up to 5 million people and 2.5 millions RVs visit here every winter.

Quartzsite's claim to fame began when rock hounds came here to collect and sell their creations under makeshift tents. That tradition has continued and grown to include huge fleamarkets selling just about anything imaginable. The hoards of RVs showing up every year spawned many other attractions and events besides the RV show which is said to have the largest attendance of any RV show in the U.S.

During this peak population the desert is literally covered, helter-skelter, with RVs as far as one can see.
